Last week on Beyond The Page we talked about source material, this week we will be discussing adaptations.
When you take the source material and make it into something different, that is an adaptation, an example of this would be a book to a movie or a story to a video game, but usually a book to a movie or TV series. A large example of adaptations would be the Harry Potter Movies based on the books of the same name, and this adaptation was successful. But, many adaptations also fail, a failed large adaptation would be the Percy Jackson franchise that was supposed to be a 5 movie franchise but was shelved after the second one was released due to suffering from poor reviews and mediocre box office numbers. Howeve, Disney Plus is planning to release a Percy Jackson TV series on December 20th, 2023 so this franchise got lucky that it’s being revived. How would you feel if your favorite source material was never adapted or is being adapted?
