Week 6 of college football did not disappoint. The Red River Rivalry was one of the best games of this decade, Georgia proved they were number 1, Top teams almost got scary upsets, Louisville proved their worth in a packed ACC, and Mario Cristobal almost got himself fired. But, let’s take a look at week 7. These matchups are the most intriguing they’ve been.
Some top teams in Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, and Alabama take on very weak in conference opponents this Saturday. All four of these teams are favored by more than 19, and these should be very easy wins for these teams. Georgia is taking on a poverty Vanderbilt team, Ohio State is taking on the upset team of the 2010s, Purdue, and Michigan and Alabama take on last place Indiana and Arkansas.
Now, to get into the intriguing matchups, I wanna start off with a very interesting matchup where the Miami Hurricanes travel to Chapel Hill to take on the Tarheels led by none other than Drake Maye. First off, I just wanna say the Miami Hurricanes are not back. Mario Cristobal single handedly ruined the season for his team, and proceeded to blame it on the running back, Donald Chaney Jr. But, I will say, watch out for Tyler Van Dyke and this Miami offense and their star defense led by Junior, Francisco Mauigoa. I would say this Tarheels team is way too powerful though, with star quarterback Drake Maye, and their most hyped reciever, Tez Walker, coming back last game. Honestly, give me the Tarheels winning this game very easily in front of their home crowd at Kenan Stadium and Mack Brown’s team covering the spread of 3.5.
One more very interesting matchup is the Trojans of Southern California traveling to South Bend to take on the Fighting Irish. Both of these teams did not play a great game with USC going into three overtime’s with Arizona, and Notre Dame losing to a very hyped Louisville team. But, I have to say, Caleb Williams continued to do his thing and continue his repeat heisman campaign with 219 passing yards with 1 touchdown, and showing us why he’s a dual threat quarterback, with 3 rushing touchdowns. The USC Trojans will put up a fight in front of this home crowd in Notre Dame Stadium, but Sam Hartman will bounce back from his horrendous performance in Louisville. Sam Hartman threw his first picks of the season, and he didn’t just throw one, he threw 3 interceptions, moving Notre Dame all the way to 21, and ruining his heisman chances. Look out for this Notre Dame team to bounce back, give me the historic fighting Irish actually covering their line of 2.5 and getting a huge bounce back win before they take on Pitt and ruin USC’s entire playoff chances in the stacked PAC-12.
Now, the main event, the main matchup, college game day is traveling to Seattle for the very first time for the Oregon Ducks against the Washington Huskies. The two quarterbacks for these teams are both top 3 in heisman odds right now, with Bo Nix leading the ducks and Michael Penix Jr. With 16 passing touchdowns and only 2 picks. Both of these teams are also coming off of bye weeks, so both teams will be ready. These are for sure two of the best offenses with 557 total yards and 569 yards a game respectively. But, I have to go with the Oregon Ducks. This Oregon team has proven themselves time and time against with blowout wins against Colorado and Texas Tech, two very decent teams. This Washington team has yet to prove themselves, barely beating the wildcats of Arizona and their defense has allowed 365 yards a game compared to Oregon allowing 255 yards a game. So, give me the mighty Oregon ducks traveling to the most hyped game so far this season, and beating the Washington Huskies and furthering their chances of a college football playoff birth, their first since Marcus Marriota took snaps under center in 2014, when they lost to Ezekiel Elliot and the Ohio State Buckeyes. Go Ducks, and we’ll get a huge win to further our record to 6-0.
I know I will enjoy this weekend of college football as I will be in Blacksburg for the struggling Virginia Tech team taking on Wake Forest. But, these matchups will be an absolute treat to watch. Come back next weekend for another report, and future matchups as we dive into week 8 of college football action before the College Football Playoff Rankings officially come out.
