Invitation to the National Youth Science Academy

National Youth Science Academy

It is my pleasure to share with you the invitation from the National Youth Science Academy (NYSAcademy) for two Alabama STEAM(science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) students (Juniors or seniors)to attend the National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp).

The NYSCamp is one of the nation’s premier programs in secondary science education. Since its inception in 1963, West Virginia’s governor has invited the governor of each of the United States to identify two of its most talented and promising STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) students to participate in this unique program. Traditionally, the NYSCamp (http://www.nyscamp.org/) has been a residential STEAM program designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising STEAM leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities.

This year the  2023 NYSCamp will be a hybrid experience, with the first 5 days being fully virtual followed by 2.5 weeks in person. The 2023 Camp will run from Monday June 19 to Wednesday July 12. During both the virtual and in-person aspects of camp, delegates are expected to participate daily in camp activities for the entire duration of camp. The NYSCamp is offered to selected participants at NO COST so that talented students may attend regardless of their financial ability.  Potential applicants should go to http://apply.nyscamp.org  using any modern web browser; this is called the NYSCamp Application Landing Page.  All the information about the upcoming camp and the link to apply are on the NYSCamp Application Landing Page.

Students will submit online applications via the NYSCamp Web site at www.nyscamp.org.  Please see the attached document for an overview of the application process. The deadline for all submissions through the NYSCamp Web February 28, 2023. If you should need additional information, please contact Dr. Carolyn A. Jones by telephone at 334-694-4768 or via e-mail at cajones@alsde.edu.
