More about Auburn Softball
Program Mission:
Our mission is to aid in the development of the character traits, ethical beliefs, morals, and leadership qualities of our student athletes through the rigors of our program. Our athletes strive to be model students, productive citizens, and people of outstanding character. We work to accomplish this mission by setting high standards for our athletes to maintain.
Our standards:
- Self-less – Self less acts require a person to put the needs of others above their own. We believe that by being self-less, our athletes are better prepared to be productive and caring members of society.
- Motivated – Self-motivated individuals possess passion, fortitude, and initiative. Motivation leads to production, and productive athletes become productive members of society.
- Attitude – A positive attitude is essential for a person’s mental health, and for the betterment of a team culture. Positivity builds self-esteem, and self-esteem aids in production.
- Service – Our program is built to serve the needs of our athletes, and our athletes are charged with serving those around them (ie, teammates, classmates, teachers, church groups, families, friends, etc).
- Heart – Courageous acts require self sacrifice, discipline, and belief. Courage empowers our athletes to handle adverse situations, and to process failure.
A glimpse at what we do…
- Fitness – We believe athletics are a great avenue to promote a healthy lifestyle that can benefit players for years to come. We train year round and offer training sessions for our players 3 – 4 times per week, 12 months a year. We lift, run, and work on our flexibility to promote the health of our athletes.
- Off season Skill Training – We work on “skills” during times allowed by the AHSAA Guidelines. This includes an 8 week period in the summer, and 10 weeks during the fall semester where we can work on skill training for a maximum of 2 hours per week.
- In Season Practice – typically, we practice 5 – 6 days per week before our competitions begin. After competition begins, we modify our practice schedules to balance out the need for rest and recovery with the need for development and correction.
Teams
- Middle School Team – Athletes in grades 7 – 8 only.
- Junior Varsity Team – All athletes in grades 7 – 11 are eligible to compete on the JV team
- Varsity Team – All athletes in grades 7 – 12 are eligible to compete on V
- Highly competitive; focus on advanced game knowledge and established skill
- Player led and facilitated understanding of game situations, defensive alignments, and decisions. Offensively, we focus more on execution than mechanics at this advanced level.
- Games: up to 18 regular season
- Tournaments: Maximum of 7 allowed (we typically compete in 5)
- Game season ends when the team has been eliminated from the AHSAA State Playoffs, or wins the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
Logistics
Team Fees (estimated)
o We provide the opportunity for our players to participate in several fundraisers over the course of the year. Some of those fundraisers can be used to cover the cost of all team fees.
o Examples of fundraisers: Golf Tournament (Hole Sponsors, Teams), Advertising/Sponsorship Sales, Chicken Fundraiser
Team Fee for a player new to our program = $400 (includes a team bag, J-band, and Helmet that returning players already possess)
o Team Fee for a returning player = $275
Academic policy
o Athletes are STUDENTS FIRST
Academic Standards:
Students should maintain a B average or higher in all courses at all times
Students must maintain a C average in all classes at all times, or be placed on Academic Probation
If a course falls below a C Average, the student may be required to attend tutoring sessions after school that will cause the student to miss practice (mandated by our Coaching Staff)
Students placed on Academic Probation are not allowed to participate in games, nor are they allowed to travel with the team, until their course averages have shown improvement.
Behavioral Policy
o Standard: Softball players should be model students that follow the guidelines, rules, and policies set forth by their teachers and the Board of Education.
o Behavioral issues in school are not tolerated, and will be addressed by our coaching staff.
o Softball players may be required to complete acts of service, complete extra conditioning, or be suspended from games for behavioral infractions in school.
o Repeat offenders will be required to sign a behavior contract. Repeated offenses will result in dismissal from the program.
